ropewalk

invite

Textures of Spurn opens tomorrow at The Ropewalk gallery in Barton upon Humber.  I’m braving the snow we have forecast and hoping to be there tomorrow, even if no one else comes!  I delivered the work on Tuesday and had time with Richard, Exhibitions Officer, deciding how to hang the work.  It is such a different space from the lighthouse!  I found the space quite daunting at first and was concerned that the work wasn’t going to have the impact it had in the previous setting.  By the time I left (in the snow – North Lincolnshire was looking gorgeous) I was really pleased with how it was coming together and I’m excited about seeing it all complete tomorrow.

If you don’t have far to travel and the snow allows then do come along – it’ll be warm in the gallery!  The exhibition is on until 24th February.

  • Wish I wasn’t so far away Alice (Plymouth) as I’d love to see your beautiful work (only just found you through Susan Bowers blog) – have been reading about your residency. I am on an MA and walking is the focus of my work so we have things in common – all the best for a great opening

  • Oh! How I wish I could there to experience your wonderful pieces in person and to meet you. Connecticut is just a touch too far though. Wishing you a successful opening!

  • The space looks beautiful – the dark wood beams and ceiling and lighter wood floor seems a great, earthy tie-in to your work. I’d brave the snow if there weren’t an ocean to cross first! Have a great opening.

  • Your work is magnificent, Alice. Wish I could see it in person.

  • must be a great exhibition, I really would like to see your work in natura, so beautiful!

Hope all is going well and that the snow hasn’t caused too much disruption.
By the way am delighted with my ‘cranberry relish’ dye prints, thanks for your inspiration, it was fascinating to watch the dye ‘climb up’ the fabric rolls

Hi Alice. Went to your exhibition at the Ropewalk – absolutey beautiful. I’m particularly attracted to your use of natural processes…. reminds me in some ways of the artwork of John Cage, though his chance procedures were produced with the I Ching. Have to admit to visiting your work three times….. very inspirational….. many thanks. Keith
