Learn about the potential for using rusty objects for printing and dyeing on paper and fabric. Using found rusty items you will produce a series of unique prints and marks on paper and fabric, discovering the possibilities of a range of metal objects.
During the course you will make a series of prints on paper and cloth, followed by a range of assemblages, book forms and stitched samples that will help you explore the potential of using found rusty objects in your work. Samples and examples will be shown for all stages, with video tutorials and step-by-step instructions. This workshop is NOT delivered live, but content is released each week for 3 weeks so that you can access in your own time (and time zone) during the course period. Feedback and group sharing will be available via online forum. A Zoom session will be offered for questions after the 3 weeks of content.
The course is planned to include the content that would normally be delivered in a 3 day in-person workshop. The processes covered are slow, needing time to develop between stages. The course is suitable for beginners and those who may have tried rust printing before. Alice will share her personal approach and the techniques she uses in her own work. Some activities involve hand stitching and the course includes work on both paper and cloth
